First Day of School changes on Sept. 8

A recent announcement from the Minnesota Department of Education has led to some changes in the start of the District 191 school year. The following shows how and when the school year will start by grade level.

Preschool

No changes. Ready to Learn, the district's full-day Early Care and Education program at Diamondhead, starts on Wednesday, Sept. 8. All other preschool programs will start on Sept. 14. 

Kindergarten & 1st Grade

No changes. Kindergarten and 1st grade students will have individual conferences with their teachers on Sept. 8 or 9. Their first full day of school will be Sept. 10. This is true for Virtual Academy students, too. 

Grades 2-5

No changes. Students will begin school on Sept. 8.

Grades 6 & 9

No changes. Students will begin school on Sept. 8. 

Grades 7-8 and 10-12

One91 Virtual Academy and Burnsville Alternative High School students will begin the school year on Sept. 8, as normal. 

BHS, Eagle Ridge and Nicollet students in grades 7-8 and 10-12, who are not involved as WEB or LINK leaders, will not attend in person on Sept. 8. However, they will participate in some virtual learning, including live online meetings, will take place. They will attend school in person starting on Thursday, Sept. 9. Details will be sent to families from each school. 

Especially for middle school students, this means that students may need to pick up personal learning devices (Chromebooks) before Sept. 8. Middle schools will be distributing Chromebooks during their open house events. Please contact the school if you are not able to attend and pick up your student’s Chromebook.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) 

No changes. Classes begin Sept. 8-9 with student orientation. Students can also attend morning or afternoon orientation days on Sept. 13, 20 or 27. 

BEST Transition Program

No changes. BEST students will start on Sept. 8 at the school’s new location in Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Pkwy. Students should enter Door #2, located on the upper level, west of the main building entrance.
